Pixelux's DMM Plug-In is a great tool for those who want to go beyond the rigid body simulation tools found in Autodesk's Maya and 3ds Max.
Imagine easily building a physically simulated railroad trestle where the timbers flex and crack when it is hit by a simulated boulder, with the shockwave ripping through the ductile metal rails. Or imagine twisting a wooden timber until it shatters.
DMM allows these and other amazing physically-based animations to be created quickly and easily by utilising stress and material physics to control how your animation will be built. Don't like how a brick is breaking? Make its density harder. Want that brick to turn to jelly? Change its material property to suit your needs. Need a wooden beam to crack and fracture? Experiment with changing its material properties to simulate different woods ranging from oak to balsa.
