The Foundry’s Stereo Master Class
Taking on stereoscopic film or commercial projects? Why not come and see how The Foundry's products can offer a helping hand in your production workflows in a free full day Stereo Master Class, presented by The Foundry.
A lot has happened in the last year, both at The Foundry and in production. The team have worked closely with customers on increasing numbers of stereo projects, which has lead to improved tools, better workflows and increased possibilities.
These Master Classes will provide an insight into stereo production, show how The Foundry’s products have been used on some of today’s leading projects, and introduce you to exciting new products that can work together to streamline your workflows.
The Presenters
This year The Foundry are delighted to be working with Shervin Shoghian (Digital Domain, Vancouver), John Gajdecki (Bold Films) and Ran Sariel (Rainmaker) as well as their very own internal stars. Shervin is fresh from Tron: Legacy and John was VFX Supervisor on Joe Dante's stereo adventure, The Hole so they add a wealth of real life experience to The Foundry's team.
The Hole
The bulk of this year's event focuses on selected shots from The Hole - winner of ‘Best 3D Film’ at the Venice Film Festival 2009. John Gajdecki will share his experiences of making the film, talking us through the ParadiseFX stereo Rig with Red cameras. He will also cover some of the common pitfalls of stereo 3D acquisition as well as what can and cannot be corrected easily in post.
The Master Class
In a time when the resurgence of stereo was still quite new, John Gajdecki and his team utilised Nuke and Ocula 1.0 to complete their original shots. Since then, The Foundry have done extensive work on their stereo tools, and will be revisiting some of the trickier shots in this class. Given what they know and have now, Shervin and Ran can provide an interesting insight into stereo, and show how far its come. They'll also touch the hot topics of 2D and 3D conversion and relighting to demonstrate workflow options.
What else can we show you?
The last year has been a busy one at The Foundry. They have just released a new texture painting tool, Mari and are in the middle of an open alpha period on their RED workflow tool, Storm. With the release of Katana later this year as well as updates to Nuke, NukeX, Mari and Ocula there’s plenty more to come. This is a great time to let you in on future plans and show you how their expanding portfolio can work together in a pipeline.
A Tron Treat
The Foundry worked very closely with Digital Domain to help tackle some of the serious challenges posed by the heavy use of fluorescent lights on both costumes and sets in 'the grid', combined with the intricacies of stereo production on Tron: Legacy. Shervin Shoghian, Lead Compositor at the company's Vancouver office will show us how NukeX and Ocula provided a solid workflow for the completion of the project.
What about commercials?
There are lots of customers using Nuke in a commercials environment. A special guest will show us how and why they use The Foundry's tools, focusing on a specific project. Presenter will be announced soon.
